Warriors’ Season Closes with Loss at No. 7 Concordia
SEWARD, Neb. – Midland University took the court one final time as it traveled to Seward, Nebraska to face No. 7-ranked Concordia University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon. Cold shooting plagued the Warriors as they fell to the Bulldogs, 80-50.
Concordia set the tone early on as they opened the first quarter with a three-pointer. Sarah Shepard got the Warriors on the board as the teams began to match each other's points, keeping it a close contest. A pivotal three-pointer by Sarah Shepard temporarily brought the game even at 12-12. The Bulldogs quickly heated with consecutive three-pointers, ending the first quarter with an 18-12 lead over the Warriors.
Maintaining their intensity, the Bulldogs intensified their pressure in the opening moments of the second quarter as they went on a 12-3 run. After a Midland timeout, Jenna Weber sparked a 5-2 run. Concordia responded with a resilient 9-2 run, further solidifying their lead. Aryannah Harrison fueled a final 6-0 run as the second quarter concluded with Concordia leading comfortably, 41-29, at halftime.
After the intermission, Concordia's offense persisted with a 6-0 run to kick off the third. The teams engaged in a back-and-forth trading of baskets, but the Bulldogs surged ahead with another run, widening the gap. Midland ended the third quarter with a 6-0 run, narrowing the gap to 62-35.
In the final ten minutes of the game, the Bulldogs held the Warriors to their lowest-scoring quarter of the game at seven points as they cruised the 80-50 victory.
Sarah Shepard led the Warriors with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Jenna Weber and Ellie Bovaird each had 10 points to reach double digits.
For the game, Midland shot 16-of-57 (28.1%) while Concordia was 29-of-73 (39.7%). The Bulldogs had 13 three-pointers in the game while the Warriors were limited to just 6 make behind the arc.
Midland ends its season with a record of 7-21 overall and 4-18 mark in the GPAC. This year's team graduates six seniors; Kennedy Darner, Lexie Glosser, Avery Tilly, Frankie Klausen, Emma Shepard, and Asia Bryant.
