Warriors Fall to Conference Foe (RV) Ottawa in Home Finale
FREMONT, Neb. – Coming off of the holiday weekend, Midland University hosted (RV) Ottawa University in a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) contest at home on Monday night. The Braves used an extended run of unanswered goals, after playing even with the Warriors through the first six minutes, to take the conference win 18-2. The loss drops Midland to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the KCAC. Ottawa improves to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
After giving up an initial goal to the Braves in the opening minute, the Warriors settled in and went on the attack. With 9:17 left in the first quarter, Joshua Pereira scored his third goal of the year off an assist from Sayer Kuenzi.
Ottawa responded with three straight goals to close out the opening period and added five more in the second to take a 9-1 lead into the halftime break.
Coming out of the intermission, they remained hot as they rattled off six more goals before the Warriors could answer back. With 6:56 to go in the game, Nick Luedke found the back of the net, earning his team-leading 13th goal of the season.
The Braves cruised to the lopsided win, adding three more to their scoresheet to make the final score 18-2.
CJ Salinas saw 28 shots come his way, corralling 10 saves on the night.
Midland (2-8, 0-2 KCAC) will look to finish its season strong as they close out the regular season this weekend. They'll travel to face Missouri Baptist (1-7, 1-1 KCAC) on Friday before hosting Saint Mary (0-7, 0-2 KCAC) on Senior Day this coming Sunday.
