Warriors Scoop Up Second Win at Clarke
DUBUQUE, Iowa – Midland University one final time in nonconference action as they traveled to face Clarke University on Thursday night. The Warriors led wire-to-wire, scoring the first two goals en route to a 10-4 win over the Pride on their Senior Night. The victory is the second of the season for MU as they improve to 2-6 on the year. Clarke drops its second straight and now sits at 3-6 overall.
Sayer Kuenzi had a hand in both first-quarter goals for the Warriors. He netted an unassisted goal just over three minutes to get things going and then assisted Nick Luedke 33 seconds later. A score by the Pride with 1:31 remaining made it 2-1 after 15 minutes of play.
In the second quarter, Luedke struck twice off feeds from Joshua Pereira in the opening minutes. After several minutes of defensive play and a goal from the home team, Dominic Jochim put Midland up 5-2 heading into the halftime break.
Coming out of the break, Clarke scored a first-minute goal following its intermission adjustments. Midland settled in though and scored three-straight to close the third and then the first two of the fourth quarter, cruising to the 10-4 victory.
Luedke finished with 4 goals on 13 shots to lead the team while Kuenzi had 3 scores on 9 shots. Netting one goal each were Pereira, Jochim, and Keegan Lindsay.
Defensively, CJ Salinas picked up the win in goal. He had 12 saves on the night, the third-highest mark of the season. In the face-off circle, Ryan White won 8 of 16 chances.
Midland (2-6) will journey home for its final non-conference game of the year as they host No. 5-ranked Webber International (10-1) next week. The game is set for 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5 at Heedum Field in Fremont, Nebraska.
