Warriors Sweep Team Titles, Earn Eight Individual Championships
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Midland University captured both the raw and equipped team national championships at the 2025 USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals, held April 3-6 at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. The Warriors showcased impressive depth and talent across all weight classes, led by eight individual champions.
In the women's equipped division, Alexis Iglesias claimed the top spot in the 44 kg class with a 342.5 kg total. Her bench of 82.5 kg, set a collegiate America record. Sally Green led the 52 kg class with a 402.5 kg total, while Jennifer Benavidez was first in the 70 kg class after lifting 542.5 kg. Benavidez was the second overall equipped lifter of the meet.
Jiselle Olivarez topped the 100 kg division with a 600 kg total, and Karson Oliver won the 100+ kg class with a meet-best 625 kg.
Other notable performances in the equipped division included Lily Falcone finishing second in the 48 kg class with a 365 kg total, and Sofia Torres placing fourth at 345 kg. In the 56 kg class, Calista Kumm took second with a 427.5 kg total, just ahead of Jaylen DeHoyos in third at 420 kg, and Niquela Vallejos in sixth at 362.5 kg. Lauren Pimentel was fourth in the 65 kg division with 472.5 kg, while Sydney Dose finished seventh at 415 kg. Kate Guzman (462.5 kg) and Peyton Busteed (507.5 kg) each finished second in the 70 kg and 75 kg divisions, respectively. In the 82.5 kg class, Jenna Maler placed second with 550 kg and Kaitlin Tagle was fifth at 487.5 kg. Kennedi Butcher lifted 548 kg to finish second in the 90 kg division. Her bench of 145.5 kg set a collegiate American record. Jaycee Barnes placing fifth at 485 kg. In the 100+ kg class, Angelina Calzada was fourth with 552.5 kg and Aerianna Segura finished sixth at 542.5 kg.
Midland also earned individual titles in the raw division. Brooke Ruland was the top lifter in the 82.5 kg class with a 472.5 kg total. Madison Rock, who was second in the lifter of the meet standings, led the 60 kg division with a 452.5 kg performance. Aaliyah Henry claimed first in the 100 kg class with a 520 kg total, and Lagi AhSang topped the 100+ kg division with 580 kg.
Additional contributors in the raw division included Maci Avila, who placed third in the 65 kg class with 432.5 kg, and Alyssa Kwarciany, who was 10th at 402.5 kg. Madison Garcia finished fourth in the 70 kg division with 455 kg. In the lighter classes, Delilah Garcia placed fifth in the 44 kg class with a 255 kg total, and Ashley Lopez was third in the 48 kg division at 342.5 kg. Kayd Leal finished eighth in the 52 kg class at 335 kg, while Jessica Haggerty was third in the 56 kg class at 402.5 kg. Karly Huerta rounded out the performances with a sixth-place finish in the 100 kg division, lifting 447.5 kg.
Midland has won 13 national championships in its program history, including sweeps in each of the last six seasons in the equipped and raw divisions. The Warriors' other title came in 2019 in the raw division, extending their run to seven years.
