Midland Dominates Sprints, Earns Multiple Top Finishes at Bronco Invite
HASTINGS, Neb. – Midland University battled windy and overcast conditions on Saturday while competing at the Bronco Invitational, turning in a strong showing with multiple event titles and a host of top-10 finishes.
The Warriors dominated the 100-meter dash, sweeping the top three spots. Tanja Zubrod led the way with a first-place finish in 12.16 seconds, followed by Aurora Griffin in second (12.45) and Amber van Beugen in third (12.48). Caelianna Risler added a fifth-place finish in 12.54.
Midland continued its sprint success in the 200 meters, where Zubrod again claimed gold with a time of 25.29. Griffin finished second in 26.13, while van Beugen placed fourth (26.47). Maria Sander (26.51) and Rianna Greene (26.53) rounded out the Warriors' efforts in fifth and sixth, respectively.
In the middle-distance events, Carly Carstens paced Midland with a first-place finish in the 800 meters, clocking in at 2:33.11. Judy Chepkorir placed third (2:44.93), and Delanie Tally finished sixth (2:56.93). Carstens also added a fourth-place finish in the 1,500 meters (5:14.98), while Bridget Meier secured 10th in 5:35.23.
Maite Farin highlighted the distance events with a standout performance in the 5,000 meters, winning the race in 19:47.55 while hitting the NAIA 'A' standard.
In the field events, Krista Hardy led the way in the high jump with a third-place clearance of 1.62 meters. Meike Lahuis placed sixth (1.47m), and Shyanne Pipkin finished eighth (1.42m). Pipkin also added an eighth-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 28.00 meters.
Midland saw strong performances in the horizontal jumps as well. Farrah Wilson placed third in the long jump (4.94m), followed by Josie Reiff in fourth (4.78m). In the triple jump, Reiff secured third with a mark of 10.05 meters, while Wilson finished fifth at 9.85 meters.
Midland will be back in action next weekend when it sends a group of athletes to compete in the Loper Invitational in Kearney, Nebraska, on Saturday, April 18.
