Warriors Post Strong Showing at Concordia Invite

SEWARD, Neb. — Midland University returned to action Saturday, competing in the Concordia Invite. Several athletes recorded top-10 finishes at the meet, hosted by Concordia University at Bulldog Stadium.

Sara Diew placed fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.70 meters.

Vanessa Rice secured third in the long jump with a mark of 5.37 meters.

Diew added her second top-five finish of the day in the discus, placing fourth with a throw of 47.15 meters.

In the high jump, Krista Hardy led the field, placing first with a jump of 1.67 meters. Meike Lahuis finished ninth with a clearance of 1.52 meters.

Maite Farin notched a first-place finish in the 10,000-meter race, leading the field with a time of 39:33.05. Maddie Bergstrom (40:58.67) and Bridget Meier (42:24.57) placed fifth and seventh, respectively. Farin's time ranks ninth in Midland program history.

Danika Leuenberger placed seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:37.94, ranking eighth all-time in program history.

Five Warriors finished in the top 10 of the 400-meter dash, led by Tanja Zubrod's second-place time of 57.96. Rianna Greene (1:02.12), Aurora Griffin (1:02.52), and Maria Sander (1:02.76) followed in sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively. Amber van Beugen rounded out the top 10 with a 10th-place finish in 1:04.01. Zubrod's time ranks third in program history.

Carly Carstens (5:19.53) placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run, while Judy Chepkorir finished ninth in 5:42.90.

In the 200-meter dash, Rice (26.00), Griffin (26.17) and van Beugen (26.67) placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, while Greene (27.28) finished 10th. Rice's time ranks ninth in program history.

"We had a number of improvements on previous season bests," head coach Daniel Gerber said. "We had four athletes add their name to our top-10 list, three of whom made their season debut in the event today."

The Warriors will travel to Hastings, Nebraska, for the Bronco Invite on April 10.
