Warriors Claim Multiple Titles at Pair of Meets
ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Midland University had a strong showing this week as athletes competed at both the Red Raider Open in Orange City, Iowa, and the prestigious Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kansas. The Warriors earned multiple individual titles and several top-five finishes across the two meets.
At the Red Raider Open, Hannah Newton led the way with a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.66 meters. She was joined in the top ten by Krista Hardy, who placed fifth (1.56m), and Dala Drowne, who was seventh (1.46m). Drowne also placed seventh in the 100-meter dash with a finals time of 13.00 seconds, after running a 12.94 in the prelims. Teammates Aurora Griffin (12.94) and Rianna Greene (12.95) finished ninth and tenth, respectively. Griffin also placed seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.74 seconds.
In the 400-meter dash, Nevaeh Sarabia placed ninth with a time of 1:02.24. In the jumps, Vanessa Rice was second in the long jump (5.06m) and third in the triple jump (10.75m). She was followed in the triple jump by Madelynn Dougherty in fourth (9.89m) and Farrah Wilson in fifth (9.83m).
The throws were highlighted by Maggie Heesch, who swept the shot put and hammer throw events. She won the shot put with a mark of 13.51 meters and claimed the hammer title with a throw of 51.01 meters. Heesch also placed fifth in the discus (39.68m), while teammate Sara Diew took eighth in the discus (38.32m) and fifth in the hammer (46.22m).
At the Kansas Relays, Kerrigan Myers continued her standout season by winning the 100-meter hurdles in 13.85 seconds, hitting the NAIA "A" Standard in the event. She also placed 15th in the long jump with a mark of 5.30 meters.
Next week, Midland will compete in the Prairie Wolf Invite on Thursday in Lincoln, Nebraska as well as the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday through Saturday.
