Warriors Make Strides at Weekend Meets

SEWARD, Neb. – Midland University wrapped up its weekend tour of meets on Friday as it competed in the Concordia Outdoor Invitational. The weekend began with a trio of Warriors competing in the heptathlon at the Friends Spring Open in Wichita, Kansas, and also saw a pair of long-distance runners at USD Early Bird in Vermillion, South Dakota.

At the Friends Open, Kerrigan Myers won the heptathlon with a point total of 4727. Madyson Ray placed 4th with a score of 4003 while Shyanne Pipkin was 7th with a total of 2886. Myers' score moves her into second in the Midland record book while Ray's moves her up to fourth best.

Running the 10,000m on the oval at the USD Early Bird meet, Myia Johnson recorded a time of 41:00.48 to place 3rd while Magdalena De La O ran a time of 45:07.99 for 5th. It was the first time running that distance during the outdoor season for both runners.

At Concordia, the Warriors had one top-ten placing on the track and three in the field. Neenah Guerrero placed 10th in the 100m with a time of 12.66. That time is good for ninth all-time in the Midland record book. In the high jump, Krista Hardy cleared 1.60m to take 5th. Maggie Heesch had a 5th-place finish in the discus with a best throw of 39.88m and then took 4th in the shot put with a toss of 13.18m. That mark moved her to fifth all-time in program history at Midland.

Up next for the Warriors will be the Jim Duncan Invitational next weekend in Des Moines, Iowa. The event, which is held on the campus of Drake University, is set to get underway on Friday, April 12.
