Four Warriors Earn All-GPAC Track & Field Honors
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Honors for the 2023 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Outdoor Track and Field Season have been announced by the league office. Midland University had four athletes earn recognition by placing in the top eight at the conference championship meet.
Krista Hardy, a freshman from Plattsmouth, Nebraska, placed 5th in the high jump with a height of 1.55m (5'1"). She has a season-best of 1.56m in the event at the Prairie Wolf Invite a week before the GPAC meet.
Madyson Ray, a junior from Blair, Nebraska, finished 8th in the heptathlon with a score of 3649. That set a new high-point total for her this season, placing her in the top five in program history.
Emma Strom, a freshman from Denver, Colorado, placed 6th in the 100m dash. She ran a time of 12.61 in qualifying and 12.77 in finals. Those were her top two times this season.
Darby Walsh, a sophomore from Ashland, Nebraska, was 4th in the 5000m race walk. A new event to the GPAC Championships, she dropped over twenty seconds off her previous best in the event.
In addition to the All-GPAC Team, individual honors were awarded to the top track performance, the best field performance, the GPAC Outstanding Athletes of the Year, and the Coach of the Year.
The top Track and Field Performances of the Meet were voted on by the league coaches. GPAC Athlete of the Year honors went to the highest individual point scorers in the meet.
Women's Track Performance – Nisa Thomas, Hastings – 100 Hurdles – 13.98 – GPAC Record
Women's Field Performance – Kiara Anderson, Hastings – Hammer Throw – 55.91m (183-05)
Adrianna Rodencal from Concordia University was named the GPAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Outstanding Athlete of the Year while her coach, Matt Beisel, was named the GPAC Women's Coach of the Year. The Bulldogs won the women's team title for the ninth-straight season.
