Warriors Make Final Push at Last Chance Meet

YANKTON, S.D. – Midland University sent a group of athletes to the Mount Marty Last Chance Meet on Friday, looking to secure final qualifying marks before the postseason. The Warriors joined competitors from five other schools inside the Ruth Donohoe First Dakota Fieldhouse in Yankton, South Dakota. With a smaller field of athletes, Midland recorded several top-10 finishes, including nine top-five placings on the day.

In the 60-meter dash, four Warriors reached the finals, with Caelianna Risler pacing the group in 8.02 seconds to finish second. Close behind were Aurora Griffin (8.04, third), Amber van Beugen (8.14, fourth), and Maria Sander (8.15, fifth).

Griffin added a strong showing in the 200 meters, placing fourth in 27.25 seconds, while Kayli Carey finished 10th in 28.42 seconds.

Meike Lahuis was Midland's lone competitor in the 400 meters, placing fourth in 1:03.21.

In the 800 meters, three Warriors finished among the top 10. Maite Farin was seventh in 2:37.44, followed by Bridget Meier in eighth at 2:41.15 and Danika Leuenberger in 10th at 2:51.94.

Carly Carstens and Judith Chepkorir placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1,000 meters. Carstens crossed in 3:21.92, while Chepkorir posted a time of 3:24.74.

Five Midland runners competed in the mile and accounted for half of the top 10 finishers. Farin led the group with a third-place time of 5:41.21, followed by Meier in fifth at 5:55.76. Chepkorir placed sixth (5:56.80), Leuenberger was eighth (6:06.82), and Delanie Tally finished ninth (6:28.90).

Shyanne Pipkin competed in the 60-meter hurdles, qualifying for the finals in 11.59 seconds before placing eighth in 11.70 seconds.

In the long jump, Vanessa Rice finished second with a leap of 5.07 meters, while Farrah Wilson placed 10th at 4.62 meters. Wilson added a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.07 meters. Pipkin was third at 9.85 meters, and Josie Reiff placed fourth at 9.81 meters.

Sarah Diew had a strong performance in the throwing events, placing fifth in the shot put with a throw of 11.24 meters. She capped her day by winning the weight throw with a mark of 17.08 meters.

Midland will next compete at the 2026 Great Plains Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The two-day meet is scheduled for Feb. 20-21 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
