Warriors Return to Action at Dordt Open
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — Back on the oval for the first time after the holiday break, Midland University joined athletes from around the region at the Dordt Open on Saturday in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Warriors competed on the track and in the field inside the Holwerda Family Indoor Track.
In the field, Midland turned in a strong showing in the jumps. Krista Hardy placed third in the high jump, clearing 1.61 meters. Vanessa Rice finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 4.79 meters. The Warriors also had three top-10 finishers in the triple jump, led by Rice, who placed first with a mark of 10.52 meters. Josie Reiff finished fourth at 9.35 meters, while Farrah Wilson was fifth with a best of 9.32 meters.
Sara Diew also impressed in the throws, finishing as the runner-up in the shot put with a best throw of 11.25 meters.
On the track, three Warriors placed in the top 10 of the 60-meter sprint. Wilson ran a time of 8.42 seconds, narrowly missing qualification for the finals. Rianna Greene placed fifth with a time of 8.24, while Aurora Griffin finished second after clocking an 8.15.
In the 200-meter dash, Tanja Zubrod placed fourth with a time of 26.60. Carly Carstens rounded out the individual performances with a 10th-place finish in the 800 meters, posting a time of 2:37.95.
Midland's 4x200-meter relay team also earned a runner-up finish. The quartet of Zubrod, Greene, Griffin, and Kayli Carey combined for a time of 1:49.44.
The Warriors will be back in action next weekend when they travel to compete at the Coach Richard Alsup Open, hosted by Northwest Missouri State. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 17, in Maryville, Missouri.
