Warriors Wrap Up 2024 at Bulldog Early Bird Meet
SEWARD, Neb. – Competing for the final time this calendar year, Midland University participated in the Bulldog Early Bird Meet, hosted by Concordia University, over the weekend. The Warriors delivered strong performances across multiple events.
Kerrigan Myers and Shyanne Pipkin opened the meet on Friday with the pentathlon. Myers excelled, earning top marks in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and long jump, finishing first with 3,274 points. Pipkin secured a ninth-place finish with a total of 2,286 points.
On the track, Emma Strom and Neenah Guerrero advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash, placing sixth and seventh, respectively. Strom clocked a time of 8.07 seconds, while Guerrero finished in 8.15. Strom also impressed in the long jump, landing in ninth place with a leap of 5.20 meters, followed closely by Guerrero in 10th with a mark of 5.11 meters. Guerrero added another top-10 finish in the 200-meter dash, placing eighth with a time of 26.59 seconds.
In distance events, Maddie Bergstrom ran the 3,000 meters in 12:04.26, earning eighth place.
Myers continued her dominant showing with a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.73 seconds.
The Warriors' relay teams had a solid showing in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Aurora Griffin, Amber Rodgers, Madelynn Dougherty, and Kayli Carey placed fifth with a time of 4:29.16. They were followed closely by the team of Dala Drowne, Rianna Greene, Farrah Wilson, and Strom, who finished sixth with a time of 4:29.25.
In field events, Hannah Newton reached the NAIA "A" Standard in the high jump with a clearance of 1.71 meters, the second-best mark in program history, to claim second place. Krista Hardy placed fourth at 1.55 meters, while Drowne tied for ninth at 1.50 meters.
Dougherty also competed in the triple jump, placing 10th with a mark of 10.07 meters.
In the throws, Maggie Heesch earned two fourth-place finishes. She reached a mark of 13.22 meters in the shot put and recorded a throw of 16.53 meters in the weight throw.
The Warriors will return to action in January as they continue their indoor season. Their first meet of the New Year will be the Dordt Indoor Open on Saturday, January 11. Events get underway at 10:30 a.m. inside the Dordt Recreation Center in Sioux Center, Iowa.
