Warriors Open Indoor Season at Tjeerdsma Classic

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Midland University women's track and field team opened its 2024 indoor season on Saturday at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic, hosted by Northwest Missouri State University. The Warriors had a strong showing, with several standout performances.

Maggie Heesch earned a fourth-place finish in the weight throw, recording a mark of 16.76 meters, which met the NAIA B standard. She also placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.34 meters.

Emma Strom finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.56 meters, the second-best mark in school history.

Neenah Guerrero placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 5.35 meters, now ranked 10th in Midland history.

Aurora Griffin and Dala Drowne both ran the 200-meter dash and moved onto the Midland all-time leaderboard. Griffin ran a time of 26.90 seconds to finish 22nd while Drown ran a time of 26.92 to place 23rd. Those times are now the eighth and ninth fastest in program history.

Hannah Newton finished second in the high jump, clearing 1.65 meters to reach the NAIA B standard and claim the fifth-best mark in school history.

Krista Hardy placed seventh in the high jump with a clearance of 1.52 meters. Drowne and Shyanne Pipkin both cleared 1.47 meters, finishing 10th and 11th, respectively.

Kerrigan Myers posted a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, running 8.61 seconds to achieve the NAIA A standard.

Madison Jones took eighth in the pole vault, clearing 2.25 meters.

The Warriors' 4x400-meter relay team of Guerrero, Drowne, Nevaeh Sarabia, and Rianna Greene finished seventh with a time of 4:15.94.

Midland will take to the track and field once more before the holiday break. The Warriors will make the short trip to Seward, Nebraska next week to take part in the Concordia Early Bird meet on Friday and Saturday.
