Myers Earns Pair of All-America Honors at NAIA Indoors

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Midland University wrapped up the 2024 indoor track and field season over the weekend as it competed in the 2024 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships inside the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, South Dakota. The Warriors delivered a commendable performance, placing 32nd place as a team. It is their highest mark in over a decade.

In the pentathlon on Thursday, Kerrigan Myers set the tone early by seizing the lead with an impressive showing in the 60m hurdles. Notably, she also cleared 1.62m in the high jump, setting a new personal record and claiming the fifth spot on the school's all-time leaderboard. Despite the challenges of the 800m run, Myers finished 5th in the pentathlon, amassing 3477 points. This remarkable achievement not only broke her school record by over 200 points but also earned her a well-deserved All-America honor.

Returning on Friday, Myers continued her stellar performance, winning her prelim race in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.55. Additionally, she showcased her skills in the long jump, securing a leap of 5.21m, placing 21st out of 29 athletes. Alongside Myers, Maggie Heesch commenced her championship meet with the weight throw on Friday, reaching a new personal record of 17.16m and finishing 10th. Heesch's season-best also moved her into third all-time in Midland history.

Saturday saw Heesch in action again, this time in the shot put, where she reached 12.68m to claim 14th. Myers wrapped up her meet with the finals of the 60m hurdles. She bettered her prelim mark with a time of 8.52 seconds, securing a 6th place finish and earning a second All-America honor.

The Warriors will take a much-needed rest before joining the rest of their teammates as the outdoor season nears. Midland will travel to Kearney, Nebraska at the end of March for the Central Nebraska Challenge, officially kicking off the 2024 outdoor season.
