Warrior Women Top Doane, Men Fall in Senior Day Split

FREMONT, Neb. — Midland University split its Senior Day duals with Doane University on Tuesday afternoon at the Fremont High Tennis Courts, as the Warrior women secured a 4-3 victory while the men were edged by the Tigers, 4-3.

WOMEN: Midland 4, Doane 3

Midland claimed the doubles point and used strong play in the middle of the singles lineup to hold off Doane. After dropping No. 1 doubles, the Warriors responded with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 as Andrea Vasquez and Lillie Johnston earned a 6-3 decision, while Ana Larreal and Malena Hernandez added a 6-4 victory to give Midland the early 1-0 advantage.

In singles play, Doane evened the match with straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 2, but Midland answered with three key victories. Graziela Dallagnol and Hernandez both delivered decisive straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, and Larreal sealed the team win with a 6-3, 7-5 triumph at No. 5. Doane picked up the final point at No. 6, but the Warriors had already clinched the match.

MEN: Doane 4, Midland 3

On the men's side, Doane took control early by winning two of three doubles matches to claim the opening point. Midland's lone doubles victory came at No. 3, where Unai Llerena and Daniel Liebig posted a 6-1 win.

The Warriors battled back in singles, earning three wins, but came up just short. Zhanxing Yu led the charge with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2, while Llerena followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 3. Angel Bustos added a three-set win at No. 5, rallying for a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 decision.

Doane secured the dual with wins at No. 1, No. 4, and No. 6 singles, including a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 4 to clinch the match.

Midland will wrap up the regular season this weekend with duals at Morningside on Saturday. Men's action is scheduled to get underway at noon, with the women to follow at approximately 4:00 p.m. in Sioux City, Iowa.
