Concordia Edges Past Warriors in GPAC Play
SEWARD, Neb. — Midland University came up just short on the road Wednesday evening, falling 4-3 to Concordia University in a tightly contested Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) dual.
The Warriors claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Graziela Dallagnol and Ai Katsura secured a 6-3 victory at the top spot, while Ana Larreal and Malena Hernandez battled to a 7-6 (5) win at No. 3. Concordia's lone doubles win came at No. 2, but Midland's 2-1 edge gave the visitors an early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, the Bulldogs rallied by taking four of the six matches to clinch the team victory. Midland earned wins from Katsura at No. 3 singles, where she posted a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 decision, and Hernandez at No. 5, who grinded out a three-set victory, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.
Concordia secured the decisive points with straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6 singles to edge ahead and seal the 4-3 result.
With the loss, Midland narrowly missed a road win in a competitive conference matchup, as five of the seven total points were decided by tightly contested sets.
