(RV) Warriors Fall to (RV) Morningside in GPAC Championship
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. – It was a battle between the top seeds on Saturday as (RV) Midland University faced off against (RV) Morningside University in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championship, held in South Sioux City, Nebraska. After a highly contested dual, the Mustangs seized the championship banner with a 4-0 win inside the First Serve Tennis Center.
The doubles' point went to Morningside, as Line Jensen and Delfina Stuzynska bested the pairing of Ari Lumanog and Elaina Fanton at the No. 1 spot by a 7-5 score. Kissmel Cedano Lapaix and Grace Felder of Midland succumbed to the tandem of Jil Hellerforth and Annika Meisel at No. 2s, conceding by a score of 6-4.
In singles play, Morningside picked up the three wins they needed to earn the conference tournament title. Jensen dispatched Cedano Lapaix in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) at No. 1s. Meanwhile, Meisel showcased resilience with a comeback win over Elaina Fanton at No. 4s (4-6, 6-3, 6-2). Lidia Suarez sealed the deal with a convincing performance at No. 6s, defeating Jeena Carle (6-0, 6-1).
With this victory, Morningside earns the GPAC's automatic bid to nationals while Midland's 2023-24 season comes to an end.
