Warriors Drop Regular-Season Finale at (RV) Morningside
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Midland University wrapped up its regular season on Monday with a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) showdown with (RV) Morningside University. The unbeaten adversaries battled on the courts with the Mustangs coming out on top, 5-2, over the Mustangs.
Midland swept the doubles matches, earning the first team points of the championship-deciding dual. At No. 1s, Ari Lumanog and Elaina Fanton defeated Line Jensen and Delfina Stuzynska by a score of 6-3. Kissmel Cedano Lapaix and Grace Felder won by an identical score of 6-3 at No. 2s over Jil Helforth and Annika Meisel. At No. 3s, the duo of Jeena Carle and Macee Thompson picked up the win over Emily Clotfelter and Macy McDonald, 6-3.
In singles play, the Mustangs were able to regroup and mount their comeback. They won five of the six matchups to claim the GPAC regular-season title. Felder picked up the lone singles win for the Warriors, defeating Clotfelter at No. 5s (6-3, 6-1).
Midland (12-6, 6-1 GPAC) finishes as the runner-up in the conference standings and will be the No. 2 seed in the GPAC Postseason Tournament. The Warriors will travel back up to Sioux City on Thursday for the semifinals where they'll face the winner of the No. 3 Concordia (9-7, 5-2 GPAC) vs No. 6 Northwestern (9-9, 2-5 GPAC) match at approximately 3:00 p.m.
