Warriors Drop Nonconference Dual at Creighton
OMAHA, Neb. – Midland University faced a formidable challenge as they ventured out of conference play to battle NCAA Division I Creighton University on Saturday. The clash unfolded at the Koch Family Tennis Center, where the Bluejays earned a commanding 7-0 victory over the Warriors.
Creighton set the tone early by clinching victories in two of the three doubles matches. Midland exhibited resilience, particularly at the No. 3 spot, where Jeena Carle and Macee Thompson battled their way toa 6-4 win over Jeanne Gearity and Elsa Jurrens.
Transitioning to singles action, Midland's Kissmel Cedano Lapaix displayed resilience at No. 1s. She put up a solid fight, falling short against Malvika Shukla (6-3, 6-3).
Elaina Fanton also showed determination in her singles match, challenging her counterpart Annika Elvestrom at the No. 4 spot. Fanton battled back in the second set but ultimately conceded to Elvestrom (6-1, 6-3)
Midland (10-5, 4-0 GPAC) will flip back to conference play, where they have won 18 straight regular-season duals, this coming week with a road contest at Concordia (7-6, 3-1 GPAC). The Warriors and Bulldogs will add a chapter to their rivalry on Wednesday, April 17 in Seward at the Bulldog Tennis Courts. Doubles play is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
