Warriors Pick up GPAC Win over Northwestern
FREMONT, Neb. – With high winds in the area, Midland University went inside the Fremont YMCA on Saturday as it hosted Northwestern College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) dual. The Warriors ran away with the matchup, winning 6-1 over the Red Raiders.
In a formidable quality of teamwork, Midland swept all three doubles matchups. Ari Lumanog and Elaina Fanton secured a 6-3 victory over Julia Kutz and Julia Anderson at the No. 1 spot. Kissmel Cedano Lapaix and Grace Felder delivered a flawless performance, claiming a 6-0 victory against Olya Furmanova and Emily Westenberg at the No. 2 position. Macee Thompson and Jeena Carle sealed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win over Ainslie Robinson and Hannah Beckloff at No. 3.
The momentum continued into singles action where Lumanog overpowered Kutz with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot. Graziela Dallagnol encountered the lone setback for the Warriors at No. 2, falling to Furmanova (1-6, 2-6). However, Fanton swiftly regained momentum, triumphing over Anderson with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3.
The trend of straight-set victories continued as Felder conquered Robinson (6-2, 6-1) at No. 4. In closely contested matches, Carle secured a straight-set win over Beckloff (6-0, 7-5) at No. 5, while Thompson clinched victory over Westenberg (6-4, 7-5) at No. 6, concluding a dominant conference win for h the Warriors.
Midland (10-4) will look to extend its winning ways next weekend as they step away from conference play with a dual scheduled against Creighton. The Warriors and Bluejays will take to the courts on Saturday, April 13 in Omaha.
