Warriors Sweep Past Mount Marty in GPAC Play
YANKTON, S.D. – Midland University put on a dominant display on the tennis courts in Yankton, South Dakota as it swept past Mount Marty University on Friday afternoon. The Warriors left no doubt as they clinched a resounding 7-0 victory in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) dual.
Doubles play set the tone for Midland's commanding performance. The duo of Ari Lumanog and Elaina Fanton exhibited flawless coordination to overcome Suri Gomez and Nicole Torres at No. 1s with a score of 6-1. Following suit, Kissmel Cedano Lapaix and Grace Felder at No. 2s forged an impressive 6-2 win against Eugenia Ramos and Alessandra Salazar. The sweep was sealed as Macee Thompson and Jeena Carle clinched victory at No. 3s with a 6-3 triumph over Kayla Marsh and Alexandra Salazar.
Maintaining their winning momentum into singles action, the Warriors asserted their dominance by claiming five out of six matches in straight sets. The lone three-set battle unfolded at No. 1s, where Lumanog showcased resilience to stage a comeback and defeat Gomez (3-6, 6-4, 6-2). Fanton continued the winning streak at No. 2s, dispatching Torres with a solid performance (6-4, 6-1), while Felder had a confident win at No. 3s over Ramos (6-2, 6-3). Graziela Dallagnol showcased her skill at No. 4s, securing a comprehensive victory over Alessandra Salazar (6-0, 6-4). Carle added to the triumph with a convincing win at No. 5s, defeating Marsh (6-4, 6-2), while Thompson delivered a flawless performance at No. 6s, securing victory without dropping a single game against Alexandra Salazar (6-0, 6-0).
Midland (8-4, 2-0 GPAC) will continue its conference slate next week with a road trip to take on Hastings (7-7, 0-0 GPAC). The Warriors and Broncos will square off across the nets on Wednesday, April 3 in Hastings, Nebraska. Doubles play is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
