Warriors Earn Win and Loss over the Weekend
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – As the nonconference slate starts to wind down, Midland University made a trip out to face a pair of NCAA Division III opponents in Austin College and Colorado College this past weekend. The Warriors came away with a 9-0 win over Austin on Friday and then were edged by Colorado, 5-4, on Saturday.
FRIDAY: Midland 9, Austin 0
With just three players making the trip and healthy to play, the Roos were no match for the Warriors who had a full allotment of players. In the lone doubles match contested on the court, Kissmel Cedano Lapaix and Grace Felder came through with a 6-0 win over Bailey Standokes and Emma Davidson.
In singles action, the Warriors won three matches in straight sets. At No. 1s, Ari Lumanog defeated Karsyn Clouse (6-3, 6-0). Graziela Dallagnol won over Davidson (6-2, 6-1) at No. 2s. In the final pairing, Elaina Fanton picked up the win at No. 3s over Standokes (6-01, 6-3).
SATURDAY: Colorado 5, Midland 4
Things started well for the Warriors as they won all three doubles matches to go up 3-0 in the dual. Kissmel Cedano Lapaix and Grace Felder were challenged but came away with a 6-4 win at No. 1s over Lindsay Popeo and Christina Heffron. Ari Lumanog and Elaina Fanton won 6-2 over Avery Hickman and Marina Seidl at No. 2. Rounding out doubles play were Macee Thompson and Jenna Carle winning 6-0 over Elizabeth Girian and Abby Wilson at No. 3s.
The Tigers seized control during singles winning at the top four positions and at No. 6s. Carle was the lone Warrior to come away with a victory as it took three sets for her to win over Wilson (6-3, 3-6, 10-8)
Midland (6-3) will return home for a nonconference match with Concordia on Saturday. The two Warriors and Bulldogs will serve it up at 11:00 a.m. on March 16 inside the Fremont Family YMCA.
