Warriors Earn Split on Kansas Road Trip

MCPHERSON, Kan. – Over the weekend, Midland University traveled south to Kansas for a pair of nonconference duals against Bethel College and (RV) McPherson College. The Warriors won a closely contested Friday dual over Bethel, 4-3, before falling to the McPherson, 6-1, on Saturday.

MIDLAND 4, BETHEL 3

On Friday, the Warriors narrowly secured victory against the Threshers, triumphing 4-3 in a hard-fought match. The highlight of the day was the impeccable performance in doubles, where Midland swept all three matchups. At the top spot, Ari Lumanog and Elaina Fanton exhibited their skill by defeating Daniela Casique and Halle Krehbiel with a score of 6-4. The duo of Kissmel Cedano Lapaix and Grace Felder dominated the No. 2 spot, securing a convincing 6-1 victory over Patricia Huerta and Nalea Payton. Macee Thompson and Jeena Carle sealed the sweep at No. 3s with a 6-2 win against Charis Yager and Grace Dawes.

Moving into singles play, the Warriors encountered a tough challenge from the Threshers, with the teams splitting the six matchups. Midland clinched victories at No. 2s, No. 3s, and No. 4s. Elaina Fanton demonstrated her skill with a straight-sets win (6-1, 6-1) against Grace Dawes at No. 2s. Graziela Dallagnol mirrored the dominance at No. 3s, overpowering Halle Krehbiel with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-1. Grace Felder continued the winning streak at No. 4s, rolling past Nalea Payton with an impressive 6-1, 6-0 performance.

MCPHERSON 6, MIDLAND 1

On Saturday, the Warriors faced the Bulldogs, encountering a formidable opponent and ultimately falling 6-1. Despite the overall loss, Midland showcased its resilience by claiming victory at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles. Kissmel Cedano Lapaix and Grace Felder teamed up for a solid win (6-4) against Alexandria Garcia and Grace Maxey in the doubles category. In singles play, Grace Felder displayed determination, winning a thrilling match against Taimi Nashiku at No. 4s in three sets (6-2, 2-6, 10-4).

Midland (5-2) will look to make some strides next weekend when it travels to Colorado for a set of duals. On Friday, the Warriors will face Austin College in a neutral site dual. Saturday will see them take on Colorado College. Both matchups are slated to take place in Colorado Springs.
