(RV) Warriors Sweep Baker in Women’s Action
FREMONT, Neb. – Opening the home schedule of the 2024 season, (RV) Midland University hosted and defeated Baker University, 7-0, on Friday inside the Fremont Family YMCA.
In doubles action, the No. 1 duo of Ari Lumanog and Lainie Fanton defeated Baker's Dayna Steadman and Ciarra McWilliams, 6-0. Midland secured the team doubles competition when the No. 2 squad of Graziela Dallagnol and Jeena Carle downed the Wildcats' Clare Langfoss and Jordan Grabast, 6-1. Grace Felder and Macee Thompson were handed the win at No. 3 doubles, as Baker was forced to default.
Midland played strong during individual competition. At No. 1 singles, Lumanog defeated Steadman, 6-1, 6-2. Fanton made quick work of Baker's McWilliams at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Felder won the No. 3 singles competition for Midland. After leading 6-2, Baker's Langfoss had to bow out, due to injury. At No. 4 singles, Dallagnol swept past the Wildcats' Grabast, 6-0, 6-0. For Midland, Carle was set to play at No. 5 singles and Krystal Olson at No. 6 singles. Both received wins due to Baker defaults.
With the victory, Midland improves to 1-1 on the season while Baker falls to 0-7.
Midland will return to the court on Saturday, February 24 when they host Kansas Wesleyan. Competition begins at 11:00 a.m. in Fremont.
