(RV) Warriors Shutout Concordia; Advance to Conference Finals

FREMONT, Neb. - (RV) Midland University took a short drive to the Genesis Health Club for the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Tournament on Friday afternoon. After receiving a bye as the No. 1 seed, the Warriors faced No. 4 seed Concordia University in the semifinals of the tournament. The Warriors blanked the Bulldogs (4-0) advancing to the finals of the conference for the second year in a row.

No. 3s Macee Thompson and Grace Felder led the tournament off with a 6-1 win over Gabrielle Heiser and Mariana Molano in their doubles set. Ivett Castaneda and Kristina Khmelevskaia at No. 2s completed the doubles sweep (6-2) defeating Ella Dean and Tara Ferrel and giving the Warriors the 1-0 lead.

The Midland upperclassmen dominated singles matchups for the second-round victory as every match finished 6-1, 6-0 in favor of MU. No. 2 Khmelevskaia dominated Tessa Blough adding her 13th win of the season. Castaneda at No. 3 blew past Alana Lopez Pagan garnering the third point, leaving only one more needed to advance.

No. 5 Felder couldn't miss in the win over Ferrel claiming a 4-0 victory over the Bulldogs.

Head coach Bruno Campos commented on the game plan for today's match. "We executed a simple game plan today. We really focused on hitting high-percentage shots and getting our first serves in. The ladies didn't play beyond their abilities, and it showed in our win."

Midland will take on Morningside at 11:00 a.m. in the championship of the GPAC Tournament on Saturday, April 29 inside the Fremont Family YMCA. The Warriors defeated the Mustangs in their regular season finale, 4-3.
