(RV) Warriors Drop Match on the Road to Nebraska-Kearney
KEARNEY, Neb. – Midland University faced the University of Nebraska-Kearney at Harmon Park in a non-conference dual on Monday afternoon. The Warriors were able to steal one point from the NCAA Division II Lopers but failed to take the team win, losing 6-1 in Kearney. Midland wraps up its non-conference slate at 9-3 while its overall record drops to 11-3.
No. 1s Ari Lumanog and Lainie Fanton dropped their doubles set 6-2 to Melisa Becerra and Narindra Ranaivo. Grace Felder and Macee Thompson at No. 3s fell to Olivia Flood and Jazmin Zamorano 6-2 clinching the doubles point. No. 2s Ivett Castaneda and Kristina Khmelevskaia dropped their match last to Masha Hatouka and Alexis Bernthal (6-3).
The 1-5 seeds lost to the Lopers as they secured the team win while protecting the home court from the Warriors. The bright spot came from Fanton at No. 6 taking on former high school rival Olivia Flood defeating her in a three-set tiebreak match (6-3, 3-6, 10-6). Fanton has moved to 12-1 on the season for the Warriors.
Midland (11-3, 2-0 GPAC) is slated to travel to Orange City, Iowa to face Northwestern (7-7, 2-1 GPAC) in its third Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) dual of the season. The teams will begin their battle at 1:00 p.m. as the Warriors look to stay undefeated in conference action.
