Warriors Tune Up for Championships at Simpson Meet

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Midland University was back in the pool on Saturday, competing in a quadrangular meet against Simpson College, College of Saint Mary, and Iowa Western Community College. The Warriors performed well, earning first place in eight of 13 events and setting one school record.

The 200-yard medley relay team set the tone for the meet with a first-place finish. Mya Nemechek, Dominique Cos, Sophia Gurrieri, and Rachel Sims completed the race in 1:58.15.

Cos had an exceptional day, earning three of the Warriors' seven individual first-place finishes and setting a new school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.97. She also won the 200-yard breaststroke and the individual medley, with times of 2:28.46 and 2:17.19, respectively.

Nemechek also had a strong performance, winning two freestyle events at different distances. She took first in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.85 seconds and won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:40.72, 24 seconds ahead of second place.

The final two legs of the 200-yard medley relay, Gurrieri and Sims, also earned individual medals. Gurrieri won the 100-yard butterfly in just over 64 seconds, while Sims took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:14.13.

The Warriors will return to action at the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Championships in Hobart, Indiana, from February 13-15.
