Warriors Take Third at Relays Meet
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Midland University was back in action on Saturday, competing in the University of Saint Mary's Relay Challenge, an event consisting entirely of relay races. The Warriors finished third out of four schools, winning two events and placing second in two others.
The University of Saint Mary claimed first place with 184 points, while the College of Saint Mary finished second with 110 points. Midland took third with 56 points, and Dordt placed fourth with 28 points.
The Warriors' first victory came in the 3x100-yard butterfly relay, where Mya Nemechek, Rachel Sims, and Sophia Gurrieri completed the race in 3:15.53, nearly three seconds ahead of the USM team, which finished in second place.
Midland also earned two second-place finishes. The first came in the 500-yard crescendo relay, where Payton Tull, Blake Patton, Quinty Rouschop, and Nemechek finished with a time of 5:13.92, just 2.3 seconds behind the USM. The second occurred in the 400-yard 4x100 IM relay, where Nemechek, Tull, Gurrieri, and Sims posted a time of 3:51.23, just 1.74 seconds behind first place.
Midland's second victory came in the final event, the mixed medley relay, where two men and two women from the Midland team competed together, finishing the race in 1:46.79—3.81 seconds ahead of the second-place team.
The Warriors will return to action in a few weeks with a dual against the University of Jamestown. The head-to-head meet is slated for 15 events on Saturday, October 26 in Jamestown, North Dakota.
