Warriors Place Sixth at Colorado Classic
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a break of just over a month for the holiday season, Midland University was back in action over the weekend as it competed at the Colorado College Classic in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Warriors showcased their skills against a predominantly NCAA field, placing 6th as a team with 11 individuals making the cut for finals.
Highlighting the individual performances, Mya Nemechek emerged as a standout for Midland, securing a commendable second place in the fiercely contested 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.42.
The 50-yard freestyle saw a trio of Midland swimmers making their mark. Lilli Heaston claimed the 6th position with a swift time of 26.12, while Payton Tull and Abby Ertz secured the 10th and 13th spots, posting times of 26.41 and 26.87, respectively. Ertz, displayed her versatility, with an 8th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing at 2:10.59.
Lily Harrell showcased her skills in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly, securing the 7th position in both events with times of 1:05.83 and 1:06.66, respectively. Meanwhile, Sophia Gurrieri claimed the 12th spot in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.70.
Aria Felt demonstrated her skill in the 200-yard freestyle, securing the 14th position with a time of 2:13.98. Quinty Rouschop showcased her versatility, earning an 8th-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:28.08. Additionally, Rouschop secured the 15th spot in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 1:12.30.
Looking ahead, Midland is set to return to the pool on Friday when it hosts the College of Saint Mary in a dual meet. The rescheduled contest is slated to start at 12:30 p.m. on January 26 inside the Dillon Family Aquatic Center in Fremont, Nebraska.
