Warriors Begin Season with Dual at Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. – Midland University began its 2023-24 swimming and diving season on Friday with a dual at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The Warriors competed in 16 events against the Mavericks, falling 137 to 74.
Lily Harrell and Joelle Zipp took the top placings in the 200-yard backstroke. Harrell's time of 2:19.64 earned first place while Zipp turned in a time of 2:37.38 for second.
Quinty Rouschop took first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:49.89.
Sophia Gurrieri had a pair of wins on the afternoon. She swam a time of 1:07.70, placing first in the 100-yard butterfly, and had a time of 2:14.40 in the 200-yard individual medley. Harrell was second in the medley race with a time of 2:21.62.
In relay action, Midland's best showings came in the 200-yard freestyle. With two teams in the pool, the Warriors went 1-2 with a time of 1:45.15 and 1:52.90. The winning relay team consisted of Mya Nemechek, Harrell, Lilli Heaston, and Abby Ertz.
Next up for Midland will be a home dual with Rockhurst next weekend. The Warriors will take to the pool inside the Dillon Family Aquatic Center on Saturday, October 14. Start time is slated for 10:00 a.m. in Fremont.
