Warriors Fall to Missouri Valley in Season Finale
MARSHALL, Mo. – Midland University wrapped up its season on Friday afternoon with a road game against Missouri Valley College. The contest marked the Warriors' final Heart of America Athletic Conference game, ending in a 16-7 loss to the host Vikings.
Midland came out strong, as Chloe Harrison and Kadence Rose each found the back of the net to give the Warriors an early 2-0 lead just 10 minutes into the game. However, Missouri Valley responded quickly, scoring on four consecutive shots in just one minute and 27 seconds to take a 4-2 advantage. Madi Marusiak stopped the run with a goal for Midland, but the Vikings answered back with a goal of their own, scoring with just 56 seconds left in the first quarter to go into the second up 5-3.
The Vikings extended their lead just 58 seconds into the second quarter, then added five more goals before halftime to take an 11-3 advantage into the locker room.
Marusiak opened the second-half scoring for Midland, but Missouri Valley maintained control, tacking on four more goals to stretch the lead to 15-4. Midland showed late fight as Marusiak scored two more goals and assisted Samantha Jayne, giving the Warriors three goals in the final three minutes of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 15-7.
In the fourth quarter, Midland outshot Missouri Valley 3-1 over the first 10 minutes but couldn't capitalize. The Vikings scored on their lone attempt of the period, sealing the 16-7 final.
Shelby Tracy recorded two saves during her 30 minutes in goal during the first half, while Kyla Pires made four saves in the second half.
The Warriors will now turn their attention to the offseason as they look to continue growing under head coach Masey Jay.
