Warriors Take Early Lead, Drop Conference Game to UHSP

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Midland University traveled to Maryland Heights, Missouri, on Thursday for a Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) matchup against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (UHSP). The Warriors took an early lead but ultimately fell to the Eutectics, 12-4.

Midland struck first, as Madi Marusiak found the back of the net just 54 seconds into the game. UHSP responded on a man-up opportunity two and a half minutes later, tying the game at 1-1. Both defenses held strong as scoring chances were limited. However, UHSP capitalized on another man-up opportunity, scoring with five seconds left in the first quarter to take a 2-1 lead.

The Eutectics extended their lead with two goals in the second quarter before Midland's Chloe Harrison scored with 2:41 remaining in the half, making it 4-2 at the break.

UHSP took control in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals to build an 8-2 advantage heading into the final period.

The Eutectics added two more goals before Midland answered with goals from Marusiak and Harrison, cutting the deficit to 10-4 with five minutes to play. UHSP, however, closed out the game with two more goals to secure the 12-4 victory.

The Warriors struggled in man-down situations, allowing four goals on eight attempts and surrendering a goal while on a power play. Shelby Tracy recorded four saves in 60 minutes of action for Midland.

Midland (0-7, 0-5 HAAC) will return to action on Saturday, April 5, when it travels to St. Louis to face Missouri Baptist (9-5, 4-1 HAAC) at 1 p.m.
