Warriors Dominate Mount Mercy; Earn Victory at Home

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted Mount Mercy University on Wednesday evening in a nonconference game at Heedum Field. The Warriors took the lead early and never looked back as they raced past the Mustangs for a dominant 16-3 win at home.

Madigan Marusiak initiated the scoring for Midland with a pair of goals in the first quarter. Marusiak's first goal, assisted by Ryland Nelson, came within the opening 20 seconds of the game. She swiftly followed it up with another goal just two minutes later, putting Midland in an early lead.

Mount Mercy managed to find the net with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter, but Madilynn Edwards swiftly responded, extending her scoring streak to 31 games with her first goal of the day. Before the quarter concluded, Chloe Harrison capitalized on an assist from Nelson, further solidifying their lead, 4-1.

The Warriors continued their scoring spree in the second quarter, netting seven goals to surge ahead 11-1. Edwards led the charge with three goals, supported by Jewell Milliman with a pair of goals. Anika Turner and Caitlin Bowers each contributed a goal as well. A goal from Mount Mercy late in the period brought the teams into halftime with a score of 11-2.

Midland wasted no time extending their lead in the third quarter, with Edwards scoring early on, initiating the running clock with a 10-point lead. The offense netted three additional goals before the start of the final quarter, courtesy of Milliman, Marusiak, and Edwards once again.

Mount Mercy managed to narrow the gap slightly at the start of the fourth quarter with a goal, but Midland quickly responded with a final goal from Shay Peterson. The Warriors' defense held strong, preventing any further scoring from the Mustangs and securing a decisive 16-3 victory.

Throughout the game, Midland outshot Mount Mercy 33 to 10 and dominated in draw controls with a 15 to 8 advantage. Christina Myers earned her first win of the season with four saves in net for the Warriors.

Midland (3-5) will return to the turf on Friday at home when it takes on St. Ambrose (3-1). The teams will play a midday game beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Heedum Field in Fremont.
