Petrick Tosses No-Hitter as No. 22 Warriors Sweep CSM
FREMONT, Neb. – Back on its home turf after a couple of weather delays, No. 22 Midland University hosted the College of Saint Mary at Schilke Fields on Wednesday. The Warriors rode the right arm of Campbell Petrick to a no-hit win in game one and rallied from an early deficit in the finale for an 8-3 victory, completing a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) sweep.
GAME ONE: Midland 3, CSM 0
A three-run second inning propelled Midland to the win in the opener. Danielle Schoby delivered the decisive hit, a one-out double to left-center that scored Isabelle Pagan and Emma Hodnet. Sophie De Rouin added an insurance run with a bunt single that found an uncovered area in the infield. On the play, Maddison Zach advanced to third and scored on aggressive baserunning.
In the circle, Campbell Petrick was stellar, tossing a complete-game no-hitter. She carried the no-hit bid through five innings and finished the outing with strong defensive support behind her. In the top of the sixth, CSM appeared to record its first hit, but the play was ruled an error by the Midland infield. The Warriors committed two errors, while Petrick issued two walks, preventing a perfect game.

GAME TWO: Midland 8, CSM 3
After being held hitless in game one, the Flames struck early in the nightcap. CSM scored three runs on three hits in the top of the first to take an early lead.
Midland answered with a run in the first and another in the second to cut into the deficit. Isabelle Pagan, who was named GPAC Player of the Week on Tuesday, doubled home Grace Behrns after she led off the game with a walk. In the second, Maddison Zach scored on an errant throw by the catcher during a steal attempt by Sophie De Rouin.
The Warriors tied the game in the fourth when Claire Wisnieski lined a single to right-center, scoring Charlee Wegner, who pinch ran for the leadoff batter.
An inning later, Midland took the lead for good. Alexis Shepherd delivered an RBI single to right field, scoring Mara Vonk, who entered as a pinch runner. Jayci Reimers followed with a sacrifice fly to left, bringing home MaKenna Watkins.
Holding a two-run lead entering the sixth, Midland broke the game open with three runs in the inning. Jaidan Wehrle drove in a run with a single through the right side. Zach later scored as De Rouin reached on a throwing error on a bunt. De Rouin then showcased her speed, scoring from first on a gap hit by Behrns in the next at-bat.
Mackenzie Groninga settled in after a bumpy start to earn her team-leading 13th win. She went the distance, allowing nine hits and five walks while striking out six.
