Midland University Softball Weekly Preview
Midland University plays two conference doubleheaders this week. They will kick off the week hosting Concordia University for senior night, on Thursday, April 25. On Saturday, April 27 the Warriors will be on the road to Sioux City, Iowa to take on Briar Cliff University.

Recent Games: The Warriors and Tigers split a doubleheader Sunday, April 21, in Fremont, Neb. The Warriors took game one by a score of 2-1 in ten innings, as Doane won game two 6-0. Midland and Doane played nine scoreless innings in game one. In the tenth inning, with the international tiebreaker rule in effect, the Tigers scored one run in the top half of the inning. In the Warriors half, Emma Aschenbrenner started on second base. Sammy Hislop reached first on a sacrifice bunt that resulted in a Doane error. On the play, Aschenbrenner was able to come around and score to tie the game at one. Emily Kmiecik would ground out to the pitcher moving Hislop to third on the play. Liz Spooner then drove a ball in center field for a sacrifice fly plating Hislop for the Warriors 2-1 victory.
Midland didn't record a hit in game one while Spooner led Midland with one RBI. Hislop tossed all ten innings in the contest allowing one run on five hits while striking out eleven. In game two, the Warriors weren't as fortunate as Doane jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third. The Tigers would then use a big fourth inning plating five runs on seven hits in the top half of the inning which included a grand slam. Kayla Ritzdorf, Nicole Andrews, and Jami Redel all collected one hit a piece in the contest for the Warriors. Sarah Greder pitched six innings allowing six runs on twelve hits. Hislop threw one inning of relief striking out two.
About Midland: The Warrior squad is 14-19 overall and 8-6 in conference action thus far in 2013. Nicole Andrews paces Midland from the plate with a .340 batting average while driving in 15 runs. Emily Kmiecik also has recorded 15 RBIs and two home runs while Jennie Sayker tops the Warriors in stolen bases with 10. Sammy Hislop leads the Warriors from the circle holding an ERA of 2.17 in 106.1 innings pitched. Hislop has recorded an overall record of 10-6 while striking out 120 and hold the opponent to a batting average of .203.
Coaching: Coach Keith Kramme is in his 17th season as the head coach of the Warriors. Holding a career record of 435-399-1, Kramme has led Midland to heavy success. The Warriors earned five consecutive berths into the NAIA Region IV Tournament from 2001-2005, advancing to the championship game of the tournament every year from 2002-2005. Midland finished as runner-up in the regional tournament in 2002, 2004, and 2005 and they were crowned NAIA Region IV champions in 2003, earning their first ever berth into the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Kramme also led Midland to back-to-back GPAC championships and GPAC Tournament Championships in 2003 and 2004. Midland qualified for the NAIA Region III Tournament in 2007 and 2008. In 2010 and 2011 the Warriors appeared again in the NAIA National Tournament.
