Midland Sweeps GPAC Weekly Runner Awards

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), along with presenting sponsor Hauff Mid-America Sports, has announced its cross-country runners of the week for October 13-19, 2025. Midland University swept the weekly honors, with Lucas Hjortkjaer and Maddie Bergstrom being named the GPAC Men's and Women's Runners of the Week.

Hjortkjaer, a junior from Hvalso, Denmark, won the Platte River Rumble on Saturday with a time of 25:23.55. He topped a field of more than 70 runners that included competitors from NCAA Division I schools such as Creighton, Kansas City, and South Dakota State. He also broke his school record for the course by more than one minute, improving on his previous mark of 26:56.0 in Midland's final tune-up before the postseason.

Bergstrom, a sophomore from Kearney, Nebraska, led the Warriors with a time of 25:22.54 at the Platte River Rumble. She helped Midland to a seventh-place team finish in the final regular-season race.
