Warriors Place Fifteenth at Season Opening Meet
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Running a four-mile course, Midland University opening up its 2024 men's cross country season at the Augustana Twilight Meet on Friday night. The unique race that is run under the lights at Yankton Trails in Sioux Falls, South Dakota saw over 350 runners from 30 teams. The Warriors finished middle of the pack, 15th overall, and 4th amongst NAIA schools.
Jonathan Mahoney led the way for the Warriors. The senior placed 54th with a time of 19:42.98 in his season opener. Just behind him was sophomore Lucas Hjortkjaer with a time of 20:08.07, placing 71st, and senior Henri Stoeckermann with a time of 20:12.12 for 76th.
Running his first race as a Warrior, Braden Taylor turned in a time of 21:01.41 for 155th. Rounding out the top five runners was freshman Koen Steenblok with a time of 21:39.26 for 216th.
Also running for MU were Kelvin Korir (22:03.72, 242nd), Felix Grave (22:35.50, 282nd), Adrian Imm (23:21.59, 320th), Hudson McCafferty (23:28.83, 327th), and Jay Stoa III (23:39.22, 333rd).
Next on the schedule for the Warriors will be the Larry Young Invitational in Columbia, Missouri. Midland will join a host of schools looking to get their first glimpse of the Gans Creek Cross Country Course. The course will host the 2024 NAIA National Championship in November.
