Warrior Men Compete at UNK Hosted Event

KEARNEY, Neb. – (RV) Midland University sent six wrestlers to the Buffalo County Fairgrounds to compete in the Younes Hospitality Open on Saturday. The Warriors competed in the Amateur Division of the two-division meet hosted by the University of Nebraksa-Kearney.

Zion Amerson wrestled at 149 pounds. In the opening round, Amerson defeated Chance Burns of Southwest Minnesota State, 7-5. In the second round, he lost to Charles LaRocca of Air Force by fall at 5:55. In the second consolation round, Amerson dropped a sudden victory decision to Cael Figueroa of Adams State, 6-3.

Two Warriors competed at 157 pounds. Francisco Duran lost to Austin Holman of Colorado School of Mines by fall at 2:18 in the opening round. After a first-round bye in the consolation bracket, Duran lost to Zack Fish of Adams State by technical fall, 22-6. Tyren Schaefer also wrestled at 157 pounds. He lost to Jack Lounsbury of Northwest College by technical fall, 16-0, in the first round. Following a bye in the consolation bracket, Schaefer was defeated by Aidan Burke of Adams State by technical fall, 16-1.

Logan Millikan represented the Warriors at 165 pounds. After a first-round bye, Millikan lost to Melton Powe of Pratt Community College by technical fall, 19-3. In the second consolation round, he was defeated by Aaron Concepcion of Colorado State-Pueblo by fall in 46 seconds.

Treyton Tweton found the most success for Midland, wrestling at 184 pounds. Tweton earned a first-round bye and then won by technical fall, 19-4, over Stephen Sullivan-Diaz of Augustana (S.D.) in the second round. In the third round, he defeated Cameron Campos of York by fall at 2:11. Tweton's day ended in the quarterfinals, where he lost to Banks Love of Western Wyoming College by technical fall, 18-3. In the sixth consolation round, he was defeated by Kevin Clements of San Francisco State by fall in 32 seconds.

Collin Stone competed at 197 pounds. After a first-round bye, Stone lost a close 6-5 decision to Darian Gillis of Cloud County Community College. In the second consolation round, Stone was defeated by Marcel Gordon of Trinidad State by fall at 4:13.

Midland returns to the mat on Tuesday, November 26, at GPAC Duals #1, hosted by Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. The Warriors will face (RV) Briar Cliff at 1:00 p.m., followed by a dual against (RV) Waldorf at 2:30 p.m. inside Friedrich Arena.
