Trout Tabbed as New Men’s Wrestling Coach
FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University has officially announced the hiring of Doyle Trout as head coach for the men's wrestling program. He takes over the program after spending the past three seasons coaching at the University of the Ozarks.
"I'm really looking forward to building relationships with the team this season," said Coach Trout. "There is already a great culture here so it's exciting to be a part of that and add to it. I'm looking forward to helping the team succeed on and off the mat. Being a college athlete is tough so it's exciting to be able to help them find success along their journey."
Trout, a former prep standout from Centennial High School, was a four-time state champion at 120 pounds. He was the 25th wrestler to win four Nebraska state titles and was named a FloNationals All-American during his senior season. After graduating, he attended the University of Wyoming where he earned his degree in Kinesiology and Health Promotion. At Wyoming, he recorded 21 wins on the mat for the Cowboys.
"Some of the goals I have for the program over the next few years is I the want the guys to get a 3.0 GPA as a team consistently," added Coach Trout. "I believe being a good student will help you be a good wrestler and an overall good person. Which is something we should all strive to do. Another goal I have is to be competitive within the conference and NAIA. I look forward to achieving community service and fundraising goals yearly. Lastly, we want to connect with the storied alumni of Midland."
