Warriors’ Underclassmen Gain Experience at Home Open
FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University played host to the freshman-only Warrior Open this past weekend inside Hopkins Arena. The Warriors demonstrated their strength by clinching the coed-equipped team title. The coed-raw team standings saw Midland finish in second place, with Blue Mountain Christian University seizing the top spot with a score of 117 to Midland's 90.
On the men's side, Midland had eight winners in the equipped division. Braden Watson took the top spot in the 52kg class, lifting a total of 445kg. Sebastean Garza claimed victory in the 60kg class with a total of 507.5kg, while Weston Hill secured first place in the 67.5kg class with a commanding 620kg.
Rogelio Barrera emerged triumphant in the 75kg class, lifting a total of 675kg, and Mario Martin was the top lifter at 82.5kg with a total of 615kg. Travis Menchaca claimed victory in the 90kg class with a total lift of 690kg, Kaleb Linares triumphed in the 125kg class, showcasing strength with a total of 817.5kg, and Brandon Ward won the 140+kg class with a total of 852.5kg.
In the men's raw division, the Warriors boasted five individual winners. Hayden Cantrell secured first place in the 67.5kg class, lifting a total of 460kg. Trayton Roa finished first in the 75kg class with a total of 607.5kg, Evan Schwarz was victorious in the 90kg class with a total of 652.5kg, Mason Mitchell claimed the 100kg class with a lift of 722.5kg, and Kenny Le secured the top spot in the 125kg class with a total of 640kg.
Midland will get a well-deserved break until the second semester when they begin preparing for the 2024 USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia, scheduled for April 11-14, 2024.
