Warriors Secure Pair of Runner-Up Finishes at Central Regionals

FREMONT, Neb. – Over the weekend, Midland University hosted the 2023 Central Collegiate Regional Championships inside Hopkins Arena in Fremont. The Warriors displayed remarkable strength and determination, securing eight individual titles on their way to runner-up placings in the men's equipped and raw meets. Blue Mountain Christian University out of Mississippi won the two team titles, edging Midland 48-44 in equipped and 60-54 in raw.

Individually in the equipped division, victories were claimed by a trio of Warriors. Brady Price dominated the 67.5kg category, achieving a total of 645kg. Alexander Gorczyca showcased his strength at 90kg, securing the top spot with a total of 682.5kg. Jesse Perez stood tall in the 125kg category, winning with an impressive total of 742.5kg. Noteworthy performances also came from individual runners-up, Rudy Morales (60kg; 530kg), Joshua Trevino (75kg; 622.5kg), Ramiro Yanez (82.5kg; 710kg), and Yovanni Juarez (100kg, 835kg).

In the raw division, Midland had five individual champions. Felipe Garza was victorious at 52kg, securing a total of 440kg. CJ Shuford dominated the 67.5kg category with an impressive total of 627.5kg. Carter Trowbridge showcased his strength in the 110kg category, claiming the top spot with a total of 730kg. Vincent Huerta won the 125kg division with a total of 792.5kg. In the 140+ category, Sean Koch emerged as the top lifter, securing victory with a remarkable total of 942.5kg.

Runners-up in the raw event included Jackson Shultz (60kg; 452.5k), Carter Hoffmann (82.5kg; 747.5kg), and Peyton Mitties (100kg, 700kg).

Next up for Midland will be the Warrior Collegiate Open on Saturday, December 9. Lifting will get underway at 10:00 a.m. inside Hopkins Arena in Fremont.
