Warriors Open Season with Win at Strong Husker Event

LINCOLN, Neb. – Midland University began its powerlifting season this past Saturday as it competed in the Strong Husker Powerlifting competition. The Warriors won 8 of the 12 divisions with 21 athletes lifting in the raw event hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Midland won the team title over the Huskers and Concordia University.

The Warriors' winners included Braden Watson, Alfred Garcia, Sebastean Garza, Weston Hill, Rogelio Barrera, Mason Mitchell, Grant VanArsdel, and Brandon Ward.

  • Watson won the 52k division with a total of 377.5kg.
    • Squat – 135kg
    • Bench – 82.5kg
    • Deadlift – 160kg
  • Garcia won the 56kg division with a total of 405kg.
    • Squat – 150kg
    • Bench – 87.5kg
    • Deadlift – 167.5kg
  • Garza won the 60kg division with a total of 475kg.
    • Squat – 185kg
    • Bench – 102.5kg
    • Deadlift – 187.5kg
  • Hill won the 67.5kg division with a total of 520kg.
    • Squat – 197.5kg
    • Bench – 115kg
    • Deadlift – 207.5kg
  • Barrera won the 75kg division with a total of 627.5kg
    • Squat – 212.5kg
    • Bench – 142.5kg
    • Deadlift – 272.5kg
  • Mitchell won the 100kg division with a total of 735kg
    • Squat – 240kg
    • Bench – 192.5kg
    • Deadlift – 302.5kg
  • Ward won the 140+kg division with a total of 725kg
    • Squat – 310kg
    • Bench – 142.5kg
    • Deadlift – 272.5kg

Angel Martinez (162.5kg) was the runner-up at 60kg while Ignacio Coronado IV (447.5kg) placed third in the 67.5kg division. At 75kg, Trayton Roa (587.5kg) was second, Anthony Moelter (537.5kg) was fifth, and Hayden Cantrell (477.5kg) was seventh.

Mario Martin (547.5kg) finished as the runner-up at 82.5kg. Travis Menchaca (610kg) and Cade Deal (592.5kg) placed third and fourth, respectively, at 90kg. Evan Schwartz (627.5kg) was the runner-up and Dominic Constant (555kg) placed fourth at 100kg.

At 140kg, Midland earned places second, third, and fourth with Kaleb Linares (677.5kg), Jacob Hernandez (665kg), and Kenny Le (595kg).

The Warriors will have a little bit of time before their next event. They will host the Central Collegiate Regional Championships on November 18-19. The event will be held inside Hopkins Arena in Fremont on Saturday and Sunday.
