Warriors Earn Solid Times and Marks at Duncan Invite
DES MOINES, Iowa – Midland University competed on Friday at the 47th Annual Jim Duncan Invitational hosted by Drake University. The Warriors had several quality marks on the famous blue track inside Drake Stadium and in the field events as well.
Henri Stoeckermann led the charge for the Warriors in the 800m event, placing 8th with a time of 1:55.33. On his heels was Lucas Hjortkjaer, taking 9th with a time of 1:55.74. Both times were new season-bests.
In the 110m hurdles, Evan Shepard placed 9th with a time of 14.78 seconds.
The field events saw Midland excel in the high jump, where three athletes soared to impressive heights. Ross McMahon led the charge as he tied his career-best height of 2.11m, placing 3rd. Shandon Reitzell and KeRon Blackwell followed suit, securing 4th and 5th place, respectively, with heights of 2.05m and 2.00m.
Robert Atwater showcased his versatility with a pair of runner-up finishes. In the pole vault, he cleared a height of 4.55m, and then in the long jump, he reached a distance of 7.36m.
In the triple jump, Garrett Guindon took 6th with a leap of 13.19m.
The Warriors concluded their impressive showing with a trio of top-ten performances in the javelin. Jase Voorhees had a career-best to lead the charge with a 5th-place finish distance of 50.69m. McMahon also reached a new career-best, securing the 7th with a toss of 49.81m, while Josiah Meyer rounded out the trio with a commendable 9th-place finish, achieving a distance of 47.03m.
With the regular season nearing its finish line, Midland will be back in action next weekend at the Jim Dutcher Memorial Classic. The two-day meet will take place on April 19-20 in Crete, Nebraska on the campus of Doane University.
