Warriors Begin Indoor Season with Strong Showing

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Midland University opened its indoor season on Saturday at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic, hosted by Northwest Missouri State University. The Warriors recorded several strong individual performances, including multiple school records and top-10 program marks.

JJ McQueen set a new school record in the 60-meter dash, finishing sixth with a time of 6.98 seconds. He also earned a spot on the Midland leaderboard in the 200-meter dash, placing 20th with a time of 22.66, which ranks fourth in program history.

Kenya Ford was 13th in the prelims of the 60m race with a time of 7.05. That is the sixth fastest in Midland history. He also ran the second-fastest 200-meter dash time in program history, clocking a 22.18 for 11th place.

Noah Sherman and Chris Medlock finished close together in the 400-meter dash, with Sherman placing sixth (51.17) and Medlock seventh (51.31).

In the 600-yard run, Shandon Reitzell placed second with a time of 1:12.50, setting a new school record and surpassing the previous mark of 1:14.24, set by Pat Recoy in 1995.

Henri Stoeckermann continued his strong performance from last season, breaking his own school record in the 800-meter run with a third-place finish at 1:53.45. The time also met the NAIA B Standard. Lucas Hjortkjaer (1:54.84) and Koen Steenblok (1:56.81) placed sixth and eighth, respectively, with Steenblok earning a spot in the Midland Top 10 at sixth all-time.

Jonathan Mahoney finished 10th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:34.82.

In hurdles action, Evan Shepard took third in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.41.

The Warriors' 4x400-meter relay teams each earned top-10 finishes. The squad of Sherman, Medlock, Blake Olbrich, and Devyn Zikmund placed sixth with a time of 3:28.92. The team of Hjortkjaer, Stoeckermann, Taylor, and Steenblok followed closely in seventh at 3:29.13.

Garrett Guindon rounded out the strong performances, placing fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.26 meters.

Midland will take to the track and field once more before the holiday break. The Warriors will make the short trip to Seward, Nebraska next week to take part in the Concordia Early Bird meet on Friday and Saturday.
