Warriors Fall to Morningside in Regular Season Finale

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Midland University closed out the regular season Saturday with a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) road match at Morningside University, falling to the Mustangs, 7-0.

Morningside set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. The closest contest came at No. 1 doubles, where Martin Cisneros and Zhanxing Yu battled Alexis Diaz and Marcos Menendez Hervella before dropping a 6-4 decision. The Mustangs claimed the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions by scores of 6-2 and 6-1, respectively.

In singles play, Midland was unable to gain traction as Morningside completed the sweep. Cisneros put together a competitive first set at No. 1 singles before falling 7-5, 6-2 to Menendez Hervella, while Marcin Gniadzik also pushed his opening set to the limit at No. 6 before dropping a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Gabriel Whiston.

The Mustangs secured straight-set wins at the remaining positions, with Diaz (No. 2), Mathys Arnold (No. 3), Jesse Gerth (No. 4), and Santiago Minetti (No. 5) each earning victories to close out the match.

Midland will now turn its attention to postseason play as the GPAC Tournament begins next week.
