Warriors Fall to Mount Marty on Senior Day
FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted Mount Marty University in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) action on Friday afternoon inside the Fremont Family YMCA. The visiting Lancers took the doubles point and claimed four of six singles matches to earn a 5-2 victory over the Warriors. After the dual, Midland honored its 2025 graduating seniors form the men's and women's teams.
Mount Marty secured the early advantage by winning two of the three doubles matches. The Warriors' lone win came at the No. 3 spot, where Guilherme Nomura and Joaquin Jarochevsky edged Martin Cisneros and Daniel Liebig in a tiebreaker, 7-6. In No. 1 doubles, Joren Stevens and Benjamin Starman defeated Oleksander Makarov and Pablo Rivest, 6-2. The No. 2 pairing of Andrew Hammer and Jaime De Diego picked up a 6-4 win over Lucas Latil and Patchara Suklian to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play, Midland earned wins at the top and bottom of the lineup. Suklian outlasted Stevens at No. 1 singles, rallying for a 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-4 victory. Nomura picked up the other point for the Warriors with a straight-set win at No. 6, defeating Liebig 6-4, 6-3.
The Lancers took the remaining four singles matches. Starman made quick work of Jarochevsky at No. 2, winning 6-1, 6-3. De Diego pushed Latil to three sets at No. 3 but ultimately fell 2-6, 7-5, 6-0. Rivest battled back at No. 4 for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Hammer, and Cisneros edged Luis Lainer 6-2, 7-6 (1) at No. 5.
With the regular season complete, Midland (8-10, 4-2 GPAC) finished tied with Mount Marty and Concordia for second place in the conference standings. By way of the three-team tiebreaker, the Warriors will be the fourth seed in the GPAC Postseason Tournament set to begin next week in Sioux City, Iowa. Midland will face fifth-seeded Northwestern (5-12, 2-4 GPAC) in the opening round on Thursday.
