(RV) Warriors Muzzle Bulldogs; Forge Ahead to Conference Finals
FREMONT, Neb. - (RV) Midland University hosted the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Tournament on Friday. After receiving a bye as the No. 1 seed, the Warriors faced No. 4 seed Concordia University in the semifinals of the tournament. The Warriors scraped past the Bulldogs (4-0) advancing to the conference tournament finals for the fifth time in a row.
No. 2s Luca Struffi and Tycho Janssen won with ease over Thomas van Haaren and Shawn Springer (6-2) in their 15th win as a pair this season. Joren Stevens and Benjamin Starman at No. 1s clinched the doubles point in a 7-5 win over Juan Rabellino and Hugo Fuentes.
Starman at No. 2 unleashed a 6-0, 6-0 thumping of Santiago Abadia to put the Warriors one step closer to the finals. No. 5 Janssen brought the energy roaring over Manuel Rodriguez Berduo 6-2, 6-1 as Midland put the championship squarely in their view.
No. 1 Ryosei Masuda completed the sweep over Fuentes 6-1, 6-3 leaving no doubt as MU advances to the finals.
Midland will take on No. 3 seed Morningside in the Championship of the GPAC Tournament on Saturday, April 29. The men will start at approximately 1:30 p.m. following the women's GPAC Championship inside the Fremont Family YMCA.
