(RV) Warriors Tame Mustangs for Conference Title

FREMONT, Neb. - Midland University hosted Morningside University for a chance to claim full ownership of the regular season Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Title on Monday. The Warriors tamed their opponents winning 5-2 to claim the conference title for a fourth straight season. Midland ends their conference run undefeated (6-0) and 15-7 overall which ties the second-most single-season wins (2021) since the tenure of head coach Bruno Campos. Morningside fell to 3-2 in the conference and 14-8 in their campaign.  

Looking to win their ninth straight, the Warriors came out with a doubles sweep of the Mustangs as No. 2s Luca Struffi and Tycho Janssen defeated Jaime Maza Martin and Eduard Cardelus 6-0 in their doubles set. No. 1s Benjamin Starman and Joren Stevens beat Mark Trenkle and Abhishek Mohapatra 6-3 as No. 3s Ryosei Masuda and Nunzio Thiel won 6-3 over Alexander Castillo and Mikhil Raja.  

No. 5 Janssen led the Warriors as he thrashed Mohapatra 6-1, 6-1. No. 2 Starman defeated Raja 6-2, 6-1 with No. 3 Thiel clinching the title over Martin 6-2, 6-3. Stevens at No. 6, got a late start but finished strong with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Joao Costa.  

Midland (15-7, 6-0 GPAC) will host the GPAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed on April 28 and 29 inside the Fremont Family YMCA. The Warriors will look to win their fifth straight conference tournament giving them another banner to hang in Fremont.
