(RV) Warriors Clinch Share of Conference Title Versus Doane

CRETE, Neb. - Midland University traveled to Doane University as both teams were vying for a chance at the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) regular season title. The defending GPAC Champions defeated the Tigers 5-2 and cliched at least a share of the conference title. Midland stays undefeated in the GPAC at 5-0 and 14-7 overall as Doane suffers their second straight loss dropping to 5-1 in the conference and 10-12 overall. 

Common partners No. 2s Luca Struffi and Tycho Janssen led the hot start in doubles defeating Jose Purizaca and Esteban Gutierrez (6-3) with No. 3s Ryosei Masuda and Nunzio Thiel winning over Diego Infante and Donat Beke (6-4) to grab the doubles point. No. 1s Benjamin Starman and Joren Stevens battled Jorge Chevez and Federico Infante to a 7-6 (7-5 Tiebreak) victory. 

No. 2 Starman earned the Warriors their second point over Purizaca (6-3, 6-4) in the second singles match of the day. Thiel at No. 3 fought back and forth with Federico Infante eventually besting him 2-6, 7-6 (7-4 Tiebreak), 6-3. 

Janssen at No. 5 extinguished Diego Infante 6-1, 7-5 clinching the match and the team win in favor of the visitors. Stevens at No. 6 ended the contest beating Beke 6-0, 6-3 giving the Warriors even more confidence in their freshman. 

Midland (14-7, 5-0 GPAC) will face off against Morningside (14-7, 3-1 GPAC) on Monday as they look to win the conference title outright. The Warriors have won or shared the regular season title every year since 2019.
