(RV) Warriors Ace Dubuque at Home

FREMONT, Neb. - Midland University hosted the University of Dubuque at the Fremont YMCA early Friday morning. The Warriors kept the Spartans at bay winning 7-0 in their last non-conference matchup of the season. Midland wins their eighth straight moving to a 13-7 overall record as Dubuque drops to 2-14 overall on the year.  

No. 2s Bradyn Heiss and Kade Schrock teamed up to defeat Pedwar Castillo and Ryan Kiddle 6-1 in their doubles set. No. 3s Christian Ayala and Andrew Hammer clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 battle over Brady McIntyre and Dawson Freese.  

The first three singles matches were won 6-1, 6-0 by the Warriors over the Spartans. No. 1 Luca Struffi defeated Bjarne Bachmann and No. 2 Joren Stevens won over Castillo. No. 3 Nathen Bitzer completed the three-punch combo over Rashuan Duck bringing the home team to four points.  

Arthur Hernandes at No. 4 sliced through Kiddle (6-0, 6-0) not giving up a game in the match. No. 5 Josiah Brejda claimed the victory over Alexander Hardin (6-1, 6-2) as No. 6 Jared Thompson seized the seventh and final point over Freese (6-4, 6-3) putting the win on ice.  

Midland (14-7, 4-0 GPAC) will battle an undefeated Doane (10-11, 5-0 GPAC) on April 23. The high-stakes tennis match will take place at 2:00 p.m. on the Haddix Center Tennis Courts on Sunday. With a win, the Warriors will set themselves up well to win the Great Plains Athletic Conference once again having only one final match left against Morningside on Monday, April 24.
